An intracameral injection is usually of an antibiotic into the anterior chamber of the eyeball to prevent endophthalmitis caused by an infection of the eye that can occur after cataract surgery. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved antibiotics for this use and it is considered off-label.

Peribulbar anesthesia for intraocular surgery has gained in popularity over the last few years. It is relatively safe, easy to perform, provides effective ocular akinesia and anesthesia. Peribulbar anesthesia is therefore a near-ideal anesthetic technique for ophthalmic surgery.

Acute retrobulbar neuritis is a disease of the optic nerve, chiasm or tract usually characterized by marked and sudden loss of sight in one or both eyes, with a central or paracentral scotoma. Rarely the fields are contracted. Occasionally there is pain on movement of the eye. The pupil often shows hippus.
